ACQ strives to be the media’s preferred commentator on aged care issues within the State.

While faced with the challenges of communicating the complexities of the aged care industry to the everyday person, ACQ consistently delivers a united voice in the media for its members.

The following media resources produced by the Association aim to improve the industry’s standing within the Queensland community and encourage more sensitive and thoughtful discussion of negative issues regarding aged care in the media.

All members: Funding awarded for research careers

One hundred and thirty university graduates have been awarded with National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Postgraduate Scholarships. The scholarships have been provided to graduates in medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health and other areas to support their Masters and PhD studies. Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, Mark Butler, stressed the importance of health and medical researchers in the workforce.

“For Australia to successfully face the health challenges of an ageing population, growing obesity-related chronic disease and potential climate change we must ensure we continue to produce the cutting edge research that comes from a highly skilled research workforce.

“I am particularly pleased to announce three successful applicants in Indigenous Health who will work to bridge the gap between health outcomes for Indigenous and other Australians.

Of the 130 NHMRC Post Graduate Scholarships, 69 will go to Victoria, 38 to NSW, eight to Queensland, seven to SA, 3 to both the NT and ACT and two to WA.

2011 Provider Assist State & National Scholarship Scheme – Closing date extended

Provider Assist have announced an exciting initiative to reward and encourage aged care workers in their careers. The Provider Assist National Scholarship Program will fund six state scholarships valued at $2,500 each and a national scholarship valued at $35,000 including a SAGE tour to the United States in 2011. HACC National Conference - Register Interest to Attend & Abstracts

The Department of Health & Ageing has launched the website for the national HACC conference to be held in Brisbane on 5-7 April 2011. ACQ encourages members to submit Abstracts presenting on “the first 25 years of HACC” and “HACC Now” from a Queensland perspective. Abstracts now close this Friday 4 February 2011. The website also contains the ability for people to register their interest in attending and these close Tuesday 15 February. Expression of Interests can only be received by the online method and the Department will determine who attends based on the capacity of the venue and equitable representation across Australia. Free solar systems for QLD flood victims

A Sydney-based company has offered to provide 3500 solar hot water systems to Queensland flood victims, with homeowners paying no costs other than installation charges. Inreturh, Apricus Australia Pty Ltd will receive the state and federal rebates for each unit, as well as 34 Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) per unit. Australians encouraged to submit 2011-12 budget ideas

The Treasurer, Wayne Swan, has invited Australian families, individuals, businesses and community groups to submit their ideas and priorities for the 2011-12 Budget. In order to allow views to feed into the Budget process at an early stage all interested parties must lodge submissions by Friday 28 January 2011. Read More

“Submissions should be mindful of the Government’s strong commitment to its fiscal strategy and the need to offset new spending with savings. While the Budget remains on track to return to surplus in 2012-2013, well ahead of any major advanced economy, the Budget must maintain the discipline of the Government’s fiscal strategy,” Mr Swan said.
