Three (3) awards for excellence were presented to dedicated workers in the aged care industry at a ceremony at Conrad Jupiter’s on the Gold Coast last week. 

The Aged Care Queensland Inc. “Excellence in Care Awards” promote and recognise excellence in a range of areas that contribute to the quality of life of older people, people with disabilities and/or their carers. The Awards also acknowledge efforts to increase public confidence and community involvement in aged and community services. 

Alice Sattherwaite, Churches of Christ Care, Kenmore was the winner of the Employee Award. Alice says ‘It was quite humbling to receive the recognition and the award however one is aware of so many staff in our industry that are committed to providing the best care and also aiming to bring normality to the daily lives of our residents and clients. D & G Community Services Pty Ltd, Cairns was the winner of the Organisation Award with SSS Australia taking out the Industry Supporter Award. 

These winners will now progress to the Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) National Awards along with other State winners to compete for National recognition. The overall winner will be announced in September in Tasmania. 

These awards are open to any employed staff of an aged care facility, retirement village, community care service or organisation providing care services.  Nominations for 2011 will be open in October 2010.
